About Me
- Name: The Highway Guys
- Location: United States
Steve is a retired doctor who became disabled at age 54 from a neurological disease. His illness affected his gait and balance as well as producing a loss of sensation and numbness in his hands and feet. While these restrictions limited his activity level, they did not inhibit his desire for adventure. After watching the movie "ABOUT SCHMIDT", staring Jack Nicholson, he made a decision to purchase a motor home and travel the countryside. He searched the web for a suitable vehicle and found one that met his needs and budget. With a few modifications to accommodate his disability, he was ready to roll. Peter was saved from death by a Pet Rescue Agency (The Cat Connection) and adopted and home schooled by Steve. He is a light brown 5-year-old Jindo-Chow-Lab mix, about 60 pounds, and the best behaved and most optimistic dog you’ll ever meet. On September 11th, 2003, the Highway Guys set out on the adventure of their lives.

Hi Steve and Pete
Love your blog. You are doing what I always wanted to do. I am a retired cytotechnologist - 34 years in hospitals - and had my first PN symptoms in 1993. Not exactly the way I hoped to enter the golden years, but here I am. Bought an RV with every intention of traveling, but my children were not thrilled with the idea of Mom traveling the country alone in an RV. Retired in 2000 and am a snowbird now. Last trip was 2200 miles in my vintage Caddy to FL. I make my own fun, and enjoy life. This PN is a pain in many ways, but neurontin helps some, and there is too much to do before I cash out. See you love the casinos. Me too!
Thanks so much for your blog. I enjoy it very much. Hugs to you and Pete.

Hello Pete & Steve!
I just found our I'm in much the same position as you...where did those travel dreams go? I got stuck with PN just 3 months after Hubby's retirement.....it wasn't supposed to be like this.
It was wonderful to read thru your blog and see your pictures. I am "capturing" one of your pics...it will be an ongoing inspiration to us both. I will use you as that inspiration every time I get discouraged....maybe next summer I will see you "on the road"!!
Give Pete a pat for me!
