HIGHWAY GUYS

Steve and Peter travel the roads of the U.S. in an RV (called The Beast). Steve is retired and disabled (mobility impaired) and Peter is his service dog. They started their adventure on September 11th ,2003. Home base currently is Los Angeles, California. On the road, they live in a 1993, 28 foot, Allegro Bay class A motor home. Their goal is just to enjoy the thrill of travel and exploration for as long as the Beast and their health allow.

070626-Pahrump

June 26, 2007

Pahrump, Nevada

As we headed east out of town, our first stop was to be Camping World, in San Bernardino, an outfitter store for RV travelers. With our trusty Garmin GPS device (which I just bought stock in) we arrived quickly, but couldn’t find a place to park the Beast.Since there was nothing urgent that we could not live without, we moved on to our first night campsite in Hesperia, near Apple Valley. It was pleasant, paved, and had grass for Peter to enjoy along with a goodly number of trees.
We used a couple of days to do some unpacking and rearranging – I say “we” meaning that I did all the work and Peter supervised as usual. With the air conditioner going full blast, we pointed the beast toward Pahrump, Nevada, to an RV Park that we have enjoyed before. It is located about 60 miles west of Las Vegas and has several reputations. Off the interstate there was about 60 miles of a small state road which we have traveled before without problems. To our great surprise, the road had recently been worked on and it was freshly paved and painted. In the distance, it seemed as if the road was “wavy” and we just assumed it was the desert heat playing tricks on our eyes. Well, in fact, for what ever reason, it was wavy, but not in a bad way, In fact it was kind of pleasant in an exciting way.
When we arrived, it was 100 degrees and that’s about what it’s going to be for the summer. The good news is that they have a constant summer breeze of about 5 miles an hour to refresh, as well as a large clubhouse with a large screen TV, and great air conditioning. We launched the Batmobile from its cave, and Peter and I went exploring. Once he found a few places to P&P, he was happy.
Originally, we were going to stay around Utah for some sightseeing, but it’s so hot, we are making a beeline for the mountains. Till next time,

070622-ON THE ROAD AGAIN

Greetings friends,

Peter and I are happy to announce that we are in the Beast, at the RV Airport, and we are cleared for take off on runway Northwest.

Once again, thanks to our ground crew (Kurt, Tammy, and Gail), we were able to upload our clothing and supplies.

Our destination is North to mountain country, but as usual, we never really know where we will wind up. Plans include Nevada, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Washington, and returning down the Pacific coast.

If you are in any of these areas, be forewarned and prepare to leave town as we approach.
